What is Self-Esteem?

  • Giving yourself respect and praise is a form of self-esteem. The American Psychological Association defines self-esteem as the degree to which one's self-attributed concepts and characteristics are seen as favorable

  • High Self-esteem entails not only appreciating yourself, but also treating yourself with love, value, dignity, and respect. Positive self-esteem also entails trusting in your abilities (to learn, succeed, and contribute to the world) as well as your independence. It indicates you believe your thoughts, feelings, and views are valuable

  • In other words, self-esteem refers to how you feel about yourself (both inside and out), as well as what you value in yourself and how you interact with others. It also has to do with how you believe others see, treat, and value you

Cognitive behavioral therapy Strategy includes:

  • Learning to recognize and examine one's own thinking flaws that are causing issues, as well as rethinking them in light of reality

  • Developing a deeper grasp of other people's motivation and behavior

  • Dealing with difficult situations by using problem-solving skills

  • Developing a deeper sense of control in one's own abilities

What does internalized racism mean?

  • It's difficult for people of color avoid absorbing the racist messages that continuously bombard them in a society where racial prejudice thrives in politics, communities, institutions, and popular culture. As a result, persons of color may embrace a white supremacist attitude, leading to self-hate and loathing of their racial group

  • Internalized racists, for example, may despite physical qualities that distinguish them racially, such as skin color, hair texture, or eye shape. Others may have negative stereotypes about people of their racial group and refuse to associate with them

  • Internalized racism causes people to believe that white people are superior to people of color

  • Internalized sexism is defined as girls’ and women's unspoken agreement that the lies, stereotypes, and myths about girls and women promoted by a sexist culture are accurate

There are 4 types of learning styles

  1. Visual learners - Someone who prefers visual learning enjoys looking at and observing items such as photos, diagrams, written instructions, and more

  2. Auditory learners - When the subject content is reinforced by the sound, auditory learners learn better. These students prefer to listen to lectures rather than read notes, and they frequently utilize their voices to emphasize new concepts and ideas

  3. Kinesthetic learners - Kinesthetic learners, often known as tactile learners, learn by doing or feeling things. They enjoy becoming involved by acting out events or touching and handling objects to better understand the topics

  4. Reading/writing learners - Reading/writing, prefers to learn through reading and writing. While there is some overlap with visual learning, these learners are drawn to writing, reading articles or books, keeping journals, looking up terms in the dictionary, and exploring the internet for almost anything
